Quick Look: Graded Discussion Forum Posts

January 05, 2021 | 1 Minute Read

CoursePlus Quick Looks is a series of video-based posts that demonstrate some of the intermediate to advanced features of CoursePlus. The videos assume a basic level of knowledge with CoursePlus (signing in, setting up a site, adding files to the Online Library).

Faculty are often looking for ways to assess student knowledge and engage students in peer collaboration at the same time. One way this can be achieved is through activity in the Discussion Forum, and the ability to grade student posts in the Discussion Forum. The instructional design team in the Center for Teaching and Learning can help you come up with the specifics, but the core idea of this approach is to have students respond to an open-ended question, have students respond to the posts made by their peers, and then grade the overall quality of each student’s efforts inside the Discussion Forum itself. In this post in the CoursePlus Quick Looks video series, we see how easy it is to set up and perform grading of Discussion Forum posts.
