Improvements to the Downloadable Course Calendar

October 05, 2020 | 1 Minute Read

Calendars are the way in which most of us manage our time. Whether you're a student or faculty member, having a calendar that's organized is a key to success. In the current "Virtual Plus" remote teaching environment, calendars are even more important for students to keep their academic lives organized and for completing assigned work on time.

CoursePlus has long offered the option to download all items on a course schedule to your local calendar application (ie; Outlook, Mac Calendar, Google Calendar). This is helpful, but we’ve made some improvements to make the information displayed in these calendar entries more helpful:

  • Calendar files downloaded via the course schedule now include the course number in every calendar event and the event description from the course schedule — if one is entered for that event on the course schedule.
  • The ZIP file and resulting folder of all calendar events in a class also displays the course number in its name.
  • The link embedded in each calendar event now takes you to the specific course, not just the CoursePlus home page.

These changes help, but we could go further. The CoursePlus team continues to work on new tools so that anyone can subscribe to calendars for their courses (rather than downloading static event files), and to provide better and more refined information for the items in the calendar. These features will be coming to CoursePlus in the current academic year.
