Do you want to develop a closer relationship with the Instructional Design Team at CTL?
Whether you answered “yes” to any of the questions above or want to stay up to date with pedagogical trends and andragogical strategies, the newly launched course “Essentials of Course Design, Development, and Teaching at BSPH” is for you!
The Instructional Design (ID) Team at the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is thrilled to introduce you to this asynchronous, self-paced, modularized online course. We carefully created this course to provide you with practical strategies and tools to enhance your course design, delivery, and management skills for onsite, hybrid, and online courses. We understand the many demands on your time, so we’ve designed the course to fit your needs.
A Modularized Approach
One of the key advantages of this course is its modular format. You have the freedom to choose which modules you want to complete and in what order. This allows you to focus on the areas that align with your specific needs and interests. Another advantage is that you can also spend as much or as little time as you need on your chosen modules.
If you are unsure where to begin or which modules would be most helpful based on your own experience, we have tailored module and pathway recommendations to help you make the most of your time in the course. You can find these recommendations and more in our “Getting Started” module.
Exploring the Course Structure and Topics
In addition to our “Getting Started” module, you’ll have access to seven engaging modules, each dedicated to a specific pedagogical topic:
- Designing a Course
- Teaching for All Learners
- Using CoursePlus
- Creating Course Content
- Technologies for Teaching
- Delivering and Managing Courses
- Reflecting on a Course
Within each module, you’ll find a wealth of pedagogical theory, best practices, and educational materials. Lectures, faculty videos, and ID-created and curated resources will guide you through the content. We’ve also included practical activities in each module, allowing you to apply your new knowledge to your current or future courses. Don’t forget to engage in the Discussion Forum where you can connect with fellow faculty members and participate in active communities of practice, as you reflect upon hot topics in education!
Individualized Feedback and Continuous Improvement
One of the unique features of this course is the opportunity to receive individualized feedback on any submitted activity. Within a few days of completing and sharing an activity, a course facilitator from our ID team at CTL will provide you with valuable feedback to further enhance your skills in course design, development, and teaching.
We also want your feedback! We value your input and strive to keep the course updated with relevant content that meets your needs as faculty. Your feedback through module surveys will help us shape future revisions of the course.
Building a Community of Educators
Our vision for this course extends beyond individual learning. We aim to foster a strong community among BSPH faculty, the ID Team, and the Center for Teaching and Learning. We encourage collaboration and look forward to engaging in practical conversations about your courses. Together, we can create a supportive and dynamic learning environment that helps improve both your experience and the experience of our students.
