A New Faculty Page Editor

January 07, 2025 | 1 Minute Read

The Faculty page in each CoursePlus site allows students to learn more about the individuals involved in teaching a course. This page is visible to the public, and is located under the "Syllabus" tab in all course sites.

The editing tool for this page was built in the early 2000s, and additional functionality was bolted on over time. This resulted in a tool that was hardly intuitive for most people, leading to a relatively high number of CTL Help requests about how this tool works.

The CoursePlus team rebuilt this tool to act in a modern, more intuitive way. The page is now a full WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor, akin to the Syllabus Builder or Page Builder page tools. Adding and editing course instructional team members is now done inline, rather than taking you to multiple different pages. You can now drag and drop course instructional team members between groups instead of the older, convoluted procedure. Uploading of photos is now done via a simple, intuitive tool that also allows for cropping of the photos.

Two new features are available as part of this rebuild:

  • You can now display pronouns for individual course instructional team members.
  • Faculty Groups on this page can now optionally include a description of that group. The description can include basic HTML markup.

The Faculty Page editing tool is also now linked directly from the main Faculty Tools page, better indicating that it’s not part of Page Builder (where it was previously located), but part of the Syllabus section of the course website.

The rebuild of this tool is yet another step in the CoursePlus team’s ongoing project to modernize older parts of the CoursePlus interface. Elements new to this tool, such as the new photo picker and cropping tool, will begin to appear across CoursePlus.

As always, if you have questions about this new feature, please reach out to the CTL Help team, and we will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
